According to the records of the first Thanksgiving Day, a turkey was likely not on the menu. Since 1863, when Thanksgiving was named an official holiday, turkeys have been presented to the sitting President, but it was John F. Kennedy who began pardoning the bird on the White House lawn.

It is estimated that nearly 90% of Americans will have turkey on their plate on Thanksgiving Day, but the bird is not our favorite food for the holiday – not by a long shot! Recent surveys revealed that stuffing and pie were the most anticipated menu items, with the turkey coming in 10th place.
