The oral tradition says that on the night that Christ was born, a young peasant girl wanted desperately to bring a gift to honor Him. However, she had no money and nothing to bring. As she approached the nativity scene, she grabbed some wildflowers – some say weeds – from the side of the road to lay at the baby’s feet. When she place her gift of love at the cradle, the ragged flowers transformed into a beautiful, large and vibrant bloom – the poinsettia flower.
