Independence Day: Facts, Fireworks and Flowers

zoom_4thJulyGrill140702112256Did you know the Declaration of Independence was started on July 2, 1776? But the Continental Congress approved the final wording on July 4. As a nation the 4th of July A.K.A. Independence Day is a day to celebrate our freedom. Traditions include family barbecues and firework shows. As we reflect on our nation and what freedom means to us we find moments of gratitude. Grateful for the people in our lives and the country we call home.

Here are a few more fun facts about Independence Day…

• In 1777 Fireworks were approved by congress to celebrate Independence Day.

• Over 150 million hot dogs are consumed on the 4th of July and considered the biggest hot day holiday of the year.

• We may enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers and watermelon on Independence Day, but it is legend that John Adams and his wife ate turtle soup on July 4, 1776.

• First daughter, Malia Obama, was born on July 4th.

Fireworks Spectacular Over Sarasota Bay: Fireworks start around 9 p.m. and can be seen from anywhere downtown including Bayfront and Island parks.

Siesta Key 24th Annual 4th of July Fireworks Display: The fireworks are shot just north of the volleyball courts. The show starts at dark.

Venice: Fireworks are fired from the south jetty. Come early; this is a popular show.

Bradenton: There will be a firework display over the Manatee River after dark. People line both sides of the river for this event.
