According to the National Association of Bridal Consultants, February is National Wedding Month. While that designation makes sense in Sarasota – where we enjoy wedding ceremonies drenched in sunshine all year long – it may seem a bit confusing in colder climes. However, there are several reasons the month makes sense as one to celebrate weddings. After all, February offers us Valentine’s Day, the reigning king of the romantic holiday. There will be 2.4 million weddings this year nationwide, and a great number of those couples got engaged on Valentine’s Day. However, one of the main reasons February is known as National Wedding Month is that February 14th is a top choice for a wedding day as well.  And although it only happens once every 4 years, February 29th of Leap Year is a wildly popular day for couples to tie the knot.
February is also at the top of the list for another wedding statistic  – more couples begin planning their weddings in this month than at any other time of the year. This is logical, given that most wedding proposals happen between Christmas and New Years, and on Valentine’s Day.

Here’s a Hint: If you are planning a wedding, experts say that you should contact your wedding florist 6-8 months prior to your planned event.

Given that so many Sarasota weddings do happen in February, experts have a little bit of advice for married couples. Your anniversary is one of the most significant dates of your personal calendar year, so give it the attention it deserves! While it may seem like a great idea to merge your anniversary with Valentine’s Day for one big romantic day, it could be construed as a bit lax. Just as someone born at Christmas may resent the two events being bundled together,  we recommend giving both of your February celebrations their due. Your spouse will love you for it.
